  • CONTENTS: Contains bonsai pot with saucer, compost, sachet of seed, decorative blue slate chippings & detailed instruction book – everything you need to grow your very own bonsai tree
  • WHEN TO PLANT: Bonsai seeds are best sown in autumn, as this is the natural time that they are shed from trees. They would normally go through the winter and then germinate in the spring however bonsai seeds can be grown indoors all year round.
  • GROWING BONSAI – JERUSALEM PINE: Pine Halepensis produces narrow needles in a deep blue-green that grow in thick groups on the branches, giving the look of vibrant ‘bottle brush’ pine clusters. In the spring the tree will produce new shoots in shades of orange and brown. Pine trees are evergreens, meaning they hold their needles year-round. Growing a bonsai takes dedication and patience but you will be rewarded with a beautiful tree that you have shaped and nourished from seed.
  • PRUNING BONSAI: All Bonsai require a certain level of maintenance pruning throughout the year. If you have a Bonsai, which produces flowers, it will also help to encourage more blossoms. Structural pruning should be carried out in autumn and the early parts of winter, as the plant begins to go dormant and you begin to see the fine branching of the tree. There are two primary approaches to pruning – Structural Pruning & Maintenance Pruning
  • WIRING BONSAI: Wiring is a crucial technique to train and style your Bonsai tree. By wrapping wire around the branches of a tree you can bend and reposition the branches. Wiring can be done year-round for most tree-species. Trees that loose their leaves (deciduous) should be wired in late winter when the absence of leaves makes wiring much easier.

Product description

Pinus Halepensis – The Jerusalem Pine is native to the Mediterranean region. In its native home it will grow to approximately zoo meters high. Location: The Jerusalem Pine is ideally suited to growing outdoors and will thrive in full or partial sun. Protect from frost in the colder months. HOW TO SOW: Fill the planter with compost, press the seed down into the compost and cover it over gently. Water little but often, if the compost is damp to the touch then it doesn’t require any water. The best way to keep the compost damp is to lightly spray it with a water spray daily. This will prevent the compost becoming to wet and prevent the seeds from germinating. Germination times can vary from 21 days to 3 months. Seeds will not germinate if conditions are not right. Once you start to see the growth come through the compost you can lay the slate chippings around the planter. This will help the bonsai roots retain water and keep the compost moist. If your planter becomes over crowded, seedlings can be transplanted into other pots as soon as they are large enough to handle. Development: Before propagating seeds, it’s important to understand the development of a bonsai. Caring For Bonsai Bonsai are normal trees grown in a container. Their needs are the same as any other wild or garden trees. They need air, water, light and nutrients, and like many other potted plants the need to be pruned to maintain their vitality and re-potted so they get a fresh supply of soil. Feeding The Bonsai Like all plants, bonsai need feeding to enable them to grow and fight pests and diseases. Bonsai that are not fed are more susceptible to weather changes and will develop straggly branch and leaf growth. Trees get their nourishment naturally from the air, water and the soil that they grow in. As your Bonsai will be growing in a pot, many of the nutrients that it would normally get from the earth (such as magnesium, iron and zinc) will need to be replenished in the pot t
