You’ll love the attractive textural foliage of Polystichium Setiferum Herrenhausen! This fabulous fern will tolerate drier soils where other ferns fail, making it a very valuable addition to woodland borders, where it will thrive under shrubs and trees. The fronds unfurl to reveal fine, lacy foliage, which lies horizontally, creating lovely rosettes of evergreen groundcover. Although the fronds get tatty by the end of the winter, simply snip them off to make way for blankets of spring bulbs. Plant ferns in a sheltered spot. Choose a cool position semi-shade or dappled shade on fertile, moist, acid or neutral, soil. Hardy ferns prefer a soil that is rich in organic matter so add some well-rotted manure or garden compost to the soil prior to planting.
