Hatozaki Japanese Pure Malt Japanese Whisky, 70 cl

Hatozaki Japanese Pure Malt Japanese Whisky

Hatozaki Japanese Pure Malt Japanese Whisky, 70 cl

  • A premium vatting of 100% malt whisky aged in a combination of Bourbon, Sherry and Mizunara oak casks, bottled at 46% abv
  • Rich and sweet, packed with malty cereal notes, dried fruit, a light touch of smoke and lingering honey on the finish.
  • Drink neat or over ice, but can also be mixed in a highball, or as the base of cocktails
  • Named after the Hatozaki lighthouse in Akashi harbour, which is the oldest stone lighthouse in Japan. Its rich history and symbolism inspired the name for our whisky
  • All Hatozaki whiskies are the result of a twofold blending process. This two-fold process allows for the complexity and balance so prized in Japanese blended whiskies.
  • The colour of the Hatozaki liquids is natural, without any artificial colouring such as caramel and without any chill filtration.

The Hatozaki whisky range is a range of Blended whiskies associated with the Kaikyo distillery in Akashi City, Japan. Hatozaki is the name of the oldest stone lighthouse in Japan, helping sailors navigate the turbulent waters at the port of Akashi since 1620. It is a symbol of dependability, and openness to the wider world.

In search of perfection

Master distiller and blender Kimio Yonezawa, 4th generation head of the company, extended his distilling experiences by exchanging knowledge and techniques with master distillers in Scotland. This has included reciprocal visits with the brewers and distillers of sister distillery, Torabhaig, on the Isle of Skye and the blenders and maturation team of the Mossburn Whisky Company.

Kaikyo Distillery

Kimio Yonezawa’s Vision

Kaikyo Distillery was created in 2017 by the Yonezawa to celebrate the centennial of their family business. The Yonezawa family have been making artisan Sake in Akashi City since 1856 and in 1917, started distilling Shochu. From one generation to the next, the family has kept their legacy alive by continuing to develop their spirits expertise. Today, Kimio Yonezawa, our Master Blender & Distiller, uses his experience and heritage to follow his dream to establish Kaikyo distillery.
