What is Bokashi?

Bokashi is a Japanese word meaning “ferment.” It’s an innovative and sustainable approach to organic waste management. Unlike traditional composting, Bokashi ferments kitchen scraps and organic materials in a sealed bin with special Bokashi Active Bran, rich in effective microorganisms.

Bokashi Active Bran is the heart of our bokashi composting system. It is a dry mixture of bran and molasses that has been inoculated with beneficial micro-organisms.

How to use Bokashi Bran for Food Waste

1: Save Scraps; Collect all food waste (veg, fruit, meat, fish).

2: Layer and Sprinkle: For every 2cm of waste, add a tablespoon or two of Bokashi Bran into an airtight bin.

3: Wait and Ferment: Once the bin is full wait for 2-4 weeks (Tip: Keep a second bin ready to use while the first one ferments. This way, you can continuously process scraps, swapping bins as needed.)

4: Boost your Soil: Mix the fermented waste into soil or add to your composter or wormery.

5: Benefit: Improve soil health, reduce waste and grow a vibrant garden.
